Penwise

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

In short: Penwise edits your PDFs entirely inside your browser. Your documents, signatures and form entries never leave your computer. We don't use analytics or ads, and we don't sell data. The only outside service involved is our payment provider, and only for Pro.

Your documents

When you open a PDF in Penwise, it is read, displayed, edited and saved on your own device using code that ships with the extension. Its contents, including anything you type, draw or sign, are never sent to us or to anyone else.

PDFs opened from websites

If you ask Penwise to open a PDF that's on a website, Chrome asks your permission for that site. Penwise then downloads that one file directly from the site into the editor, just as your browser would. Nothing is routed through our servers.

Data stored on your device

Payments (Penwise Pro)

Pro purchases are handled by ExtensionPay, with card payments processed by Stripe. When you upgrade, you enter your email address and payment details on their pages, not in Penwise. We never see your card details.

To know whether Pro is unlocked, Penwise contacts ExtensionPay using a random identifier issued for your installation (Chrome may sync it to your other signed-in browsers so Pro carries over). This request contains no information about your documents. ExtensionPay may store your email, purchase history and that identifier to manage your purchase and let you restore Pro on another browser. See ExtensionPay's and Stripe's privacy policies for details.
